The cloth transmitting biomedical information is developed

Canadian researches have created "clever cloth" that can monitor and transmit biomedical information including the level of blood glucose and brain activity, via wireless communications.

The cloth is simultaneously a sensor and antenna. Clothes may be done of wood or cotton and contains copper, polymer, silver and glass fibres also. The scientists claim that the quality of signal in 2,4 GHz wireless communications is comparable with commercial antennas.
The cloth is able to watch over the level of glucose, heart rate, brain activity as well as its owner’s coordinates in the space. The clothes hold high tension and bend loads; it will work even at 350°С, bad weather and after washing with cleansers. So you can wash such «clever» clothes in the washing machine with no worry.
This year, Cityzen Sciences has announced the production of clothes made of Smart Sensing cloth of the own technology. Cloth canvas has sensors sewed in that measure such parameters important for each sportsman as temperature, pulse rate, perspiration rate. Data are transmitted to a user’s smartphone.
Developers have planned to embed an accumulator charging during washing in a washing machine.
On the forum «Open Innovations» in Russia, an in-house «clever» T-shirt was represented. It is not for sport, but for elderly people and hospital patients. That clothes don’t measure pulse rate only, but make an electrocardiogram and transmit it in real-time.
